Goat Rodeo (Installation view #1)
Goat Rodeo explores the continuous multiplicities of ‘doing’ and the fluctuating superstructures that guide our development. Imagery of constructed space is gridded onto swaths of animal skins; collated and cleaned until they are something else. Our agency in change is limited, and what is next is uncertain.
The collection is a composite of the notions behind craft and unrecognised labour - the marriage between decorative and functional. The interplay between each object plays with the historiography of class and culture, similarly cut and cleaned into a bankable commodity. After assimilation all we are left with is the comforting experience of ‘functioning’ society. Yet our shoes, formed by unseen hands, are eventually worn down with steps to the bus. You are functionally complicit, and ultimately helpless. All we can do is watch.
